About NCTFL

The NCTFL Advantage
Tradition, history, competition, popularity and quality of play are strong incentives in themselves to play in the Nassau County Touch Football League. But to get the full picture of what NCTFL teams and players enjoy read the following to see what the league offers.

The League
Through the joint efforts of its players, coaches, league officials and team representatives the NCTFL has achieved a standard of quality and a position of excellence that is unparalleled in the sport of recreational touch football. Established in 1964, today's NCTFL means action, excitement and a fast-paced game at the highest level of competition.

The Game
The game is a fast-paced, action-packed, fulfilled sport of two-hand, rough touch football, featuring teams of six-against-six, on a full sized football field.

The Teams
Teams representing towns from all over Long Island are made up of players coming from the entire metropolitan area. Each team entering the league is awarded a club membership, which bares their nickname and team colors. All memberclubs are assigned to one of the league's three divisions where the teams will compete against each other at their own competitive level.

The Rules
The NCTFL has its own Rule Book. It is written and authenticated by the league itself. The rules are based on pro-football play but have been altered to the game of touch football. The NCTFL Rule Book is the basis of play for many such leagues and recreational programs throughout the country.

The Referees
The league has its own Officials Association, which is headed by the Supervisor of Officials, who assigns the referees for all games. A crew of four referees administers every game including pre-season, regular season and post season play.

The Fields
Only the best football fields that the Nassau County Department Of Parks and Recreation has to offer, are the sites of all the league's games. One hundred yard, lined football fields, complete with goal posts, players benches and scoreboards in Eisenhower Park, Mitchell Park and a host of other County Parks have been home to the NCTFL since 1964.

The Schedule
Every team in the league will compete in a minimum of twelve games, including a two game pre-season schedule and a 10 game regular season schedule. If a team qualifies for the playoffs, they will compete in additional games. The games are played on Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday mornings and afternoons.
Following the NCTFL's regular season schedule, all of the teams qualifying for the playoffs in their respective divisions will compete in a post season tournament and play for the division championship.

The Championships
The culmination of the post season is the League's three championship games - the Division I Super Bowl, Division II Touch Bowl and III's North/South Championship Game. The winners receive trophies and awards, which are presented at an Awards Dinner.

Television
Since 1988 the NCTFL has enjoyed having many of its games televised on Cablevision. More than forty different NCTFL teams have appeared in the Kickoff Classic, Fall Classic Super Bowl and Touch Bowl games which have been broadcast on Cablevision.
